Basically, these are card access systems. These systems use card readers (or biometrics) to control access to certain doors and monitor the door’s position at all times. They send/sound an alarm when a door has an unauthorized opening. Authorized users de-activate the alarms when they access a door. Systems are programmed with each individual’s credentials to determine who goes where, by day/date, time of day, etc.
Available types of cards and readers are “Insertion”, “Swipe”, “Proximity”, “Barcode” or “Magnetic Stripe”. Biometric readers have to do with identifying certain physical characteristics of the person using the system. Some of the available biometric readers are “Fingerprint”, “Hand Geometry”, “Facial Recognition”, “Iris/Retina Scan” and “Voiceprint”.
